A Knight Rider Fanatic's Journey
As a child in the early '80s, I was hooked on the futuristic adventures of Michael Knight and his sentient car, KITT. Hasselhoff's portrayal of the charismatic hero and the car's ability to talk, drive autonomously, and seemingly defy destruction made it a show I couldn't get enough of.
In 1991, the television movie Knight Rider 2000 brought back the iconic duo. While the new KITT, Knight Industries Four Thousand, was initially underwhelming, it improved significantly once KITT's original brain was transferred into it.
The 2008 reboot of Knight Rider offered a modern take on the classic series. Despite its occasional over-the-top elements, I was thoroughly entertained by the advanced technology and the updated KITT. Unfortunately, the show was prematurely canceled, leaving me disappointed.
In 2009, I discovered that one of my neighbors was also a dedicated Knight Rider fan. She invited me to Knightcon in Halifax, an event filled with replica KITT cars, fan gatherings, and even the opportunity to sit in a new KITT design. It was a dream come true for any fan of the series.
My love for Knight Rider has continued into adulthood. In 2023, when I purchased a black Kia Sportage, I couldn't resist giving it the nickname "KITT" - Kia In Twenty Three. With its advanced features like Lane Keep Assist and Smart Cruise Control, and the ability to communicate through Android Auto, my car feels like a modern-day version of the iconic vehicle.
